Greetings Wayfair Engineering Enthusiasts: old, new, and returned. We’re gathered today (virtually) to collect a story from Wayfair’s history. I’m Gary White, volunteering historian, frequent worker. In the last decade, Wayfair relied heavily on its homegrown ticketing system for its Engineering, Product, and Operational needs. Starting Q1 2020, Wayfair decided to standardize on Projecthub (Atlassian Jira) thus enabling a range of powerful features, all unified under one single platform. Containerized Jira environment is a relatively fresh practice in the industry and we had to break new ground in customizing Jira’s Docker image to fit our needs. Another learning exercise was the deployment of this third-party application as a Stateful set on our on-prem k8s cluster.

At Wayfair, we leverage AR beyond pure entertainment to provide value for our shoppers. AR lets shoppers answer important questions like, “Will this item fit in my space?” With AR, virtual 3D versions of products can be seen in a customer’s actual space at true-to-life scale using technology that’s already in their pocket – their smartphone.
