At Wayfair, we’re focused on making it easy for customers to create a space that feels just right for them. Home is a high-consideration category, and customers need to feel confident when making these purchases online. With millions of products across styles, sizes, and price points, our challenge is helping customers confidently curate the ideal space for their needs.
That curation journey often starts with inspiration — and increasingly, that inspiration begins through conversations with AI. From piloting our Muse tool to launching the Discover tab in our app, we’ve seen how AI helps customers hone in on their favorite styles and find the perfect pieces for their homes.
But this shift isn't limited to our own platforms. As AI agents increasingly guide discovery across the open web, we need to ensure those off-platform interactions are just as reliable as the ones happening on our site. That requires a shared infrastructure—a "common language" for commerce. That is why we are proud to be a foundational partner co-developing Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), This open standard ensures that whether a customer is shopping with us directly or through an external partner like Google, the experience is seamless, accurate, and built on a trusted foundation.
UCP will soon power a new checkout feature on eligible Google product listings in AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app, allowing shoppers to check out directly from Wayfair without leaving Google. By remaining the merchant of record, customers will have the same trusted experience that they would with going to our website.
“Together with partners like Wayfair, we are creating the foundational building blocks to enable agentic commerce to scale and work for everyone,” said Ashish Gupta, VP/GM Merchant Shopping, Google. “The Universal Commerce Protocol will ensure a more seamless, helpful and integrated commerce experience for retailers and consumers alike - starting soon with a new checkout feature in AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app.”
Agentic commerce is still in its early stages, but it points to a more intuitive, conversational, and personalized future for shopping. By helping define open standards now, Wayfair is investing in experiences that make it easier for customers to move from inspiration to confident purchase.
We’re excited to keep building toward a future where finding the perfect piece for your home feels effortless.
